What is Hockey?
Hockey is a popular sport in many British schools. It is an 11-a-side game played on a pitch 100 yards by 60 yards (91.4 metres x 55 metres) with a hard, plastic ball. Each player has a stick with a rounded head to play the ball with the ultimate aim of scoring goals by putting the ball in the oppenent’s goal. Teams include 1 goal keeper who is the only player aloud to touch the ball with any part of their body. Hockey can be played indoors or outdoors. The team that scores the most goals wins the match.
- In countries where ice hockey is the more popular sport, hockey can be referred to as ‘field hockey’.
